Pungent curry...sweet fried onions...incense...colorful beads...lush fabrics. Shobhan Bantwal's compelling new novel is set on the streets of Edison, New Jersey's Little India, where a young businesswoman rediscovers the magic of love and family...

Since becoming a widow at age twenty-seven, Anjali Kapadia has devoted herself to transforming her parents' sari shop into a chic boutique, brimming with exquisite jewelry and clothing. Now, ten years later, it stands out like a proud maharani amid Edison's bustling Little India. But when Anjali learns the shop is on the brink of bankruptcy, she feels her world unraveling...

To the rescue comes Anjali's wealthy, dictatorial Uncle Jeevan and his business partner, Rishi Shah-a mysterious Londoner, complete with British accent, cool gray eyes, and skin so fair it makes it hard to believe he's Indian. Rishi's cool, foreign demeanor triggers distrust in Anjali and her mother. But for Anjali, he also stirs something else, a powerful attraction she hasn't felt in a decade. And the feeling is mutual...

Love disappointed Anjali once before and she's vowed to live without it-though Rishi is slowly melting her resolve and, as the shop regains its footing, gaining her trust. But when a secret from Rishi's past is revealed, Anjali must turn to her family and her strong cultural upbringing to guide her in finding the truth...

An essential classic
Format: Paperback
The book has a scathing view of nobility and the upper class, with the regular people just a part of the scenery, so an allegory that has aged well and applies to modern times. I think it's an essential read to anyone who enjoys literature, as it can be argued that it's the genesis of many themes in modern stories.

Not bad, but still had flaws
Format: Paperback
While the novel was great in a way, I felt that it was outdated to me. It was written in the time that anti-heros were poorly made and if the creator of Reynard was aiming for Anti-hero when developing Reynard, he missed and hit sociopath instad. The pictures in the books are also outdated and laughable in our times. Reynard looks more like a shaved dog on the cover, I had a hard time identifying Noble the lion in his photos, ect. and the ending did`nt seem fullfilling though I felt a kick of excitment a few times.

Nice translation
Format: Paperback
It is not easy to translate poetry into poetry. It's bad enough simply trying to translate to prose. Ms. Terry does an excellent job. I read Le Roman de Renart in French while I was studying in France. Years later, I came across this translation. It is fascinating the way the original storytellers portrayed Renart. He is a completely hateful creature. Yet reading about him is fun. It's similar to how I feel about stories of Loki or Coyote. Renart is closer to Loki than to Coyote, despite the canine ancestry. He is more than simply a trickster: he is malevolent. If you have an interest in ancient folktales, you mustn't miss the story of Renart. This translation is different from any other I've read. The introduction gives a good perspective on the times when the stories were hatched.

Pretty good translation into English. Far from a complete collection, but certainly a good foundation.
